Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah44) ➊ { لَهَا سَبْعَةُ اَبْوَابٍ:} These seven gates will be for different kinds of sinners, which will lead the inhabitants of Hell to different levels of Hell. In the Noble Qur’an, the levels of Hell are called “Darakat,” as He said: «{ اِنَّ الْمُنٰفِقِيْنَ فِي الدَّرْكِ الْاَسْفَلِ مِنَ النَّارِ [ النساء : ۱۴۵ ] “Indeed, the hypocrites will be in the lowest level of the Fire.” In an authentic hadith regarding Abu Talib, it is mentioned that the fire will reach up to his ankles. Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: [ إِنَّ مِنْهُمْ مَنْ تَأْخُذُهُ النَّارُ إِلٰی كَعْبَيْهِ، وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ تَأْخُذُهُ إِلٰی حُجْزَتِهِ، وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ تَأْخُذُهُ إِلٰی عُنُقِهِ ] [ مسلم، الجنۃ وصفۃ نعیمھا، باب جہنم أعاذنا اللہ منھا : ۲۸۴۵ ] “Some of them will be seized by the fire up to their ankles, and some of them will be seized up to their waists, and some of them will be seized up to their necks.”

{لِكُلِّ بَابٍ مِّنْهُمْ جُزْءٌ مَّقْسُوْمٌ :} By the divided portion is meant a portion of the criminals divided into seven groups of evildoers, that is, just as people of a particular deed will enter Paradise through a particular gate, likewise, those of evil deeds will also enter Hell through its various gates according to their deeds, as mentioned above: «{ اِنَّ الْمُنٰفِقِيْنَ فِي الدَّرْكِ الْاَسْفَلِ مِنَ النَّارِ [ النساء : ۱۴۵ ] “Indeed, the hypocrites will be in the lowest level of the Fire.” Shah Abdul Qadir (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “Perhaps there is one more gate of Paradise because some monotheists will enter Paradise solely by Allah’s grace, without any deeds.” (Muwadhih)

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

44. 1. That is, each gate will be specific for a particular type of people. For example, one gate for the polytheists, one gate for the atheists, one for the heretics, one for the adulterers, for the usurers, thieves, and robbers, etc. Or, the seven gates refer to seven levels and ranks. The first level or rank is Jahannam, the second is Laza, then Hutamah, then Sa’ir, then Saqar, then Jaheem, then Hawiyah. The highest level will be for the monotheists, who will be taken out after some punishment or by intercession. In the second will be the Jews, in the third the Christians, in the fourth the Sabians, in the fifth the Magians, in the sixth the polytheists, and in the seventh the hypocrites. The name of the highest level is Jahannam, and after that, the names are in this order. (Fath al-Qadeer)

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

It has seven gates. For each gate, there is a designated [24] portion.

The Gates, Levels, and Names of Hell:

By the divided portion, it is meant that the criminals of the same sin will be separated and all will enter through the same gate. For example, atheists through one gate, polytheists through another, hypocrites through another, and so on. In other words, for each level of Hell, there will be a separate gate, and these levels will also be seven. According to Ibn Abbas ؓ, their names are: Jahannam, Sa‘ir, Lazā, Hutamah, Saqar, Jaheem, and Hawiyah. The word Jahannam is general for all these levels and is also the name of the first level. Some people have divided the sinners for these levels as follows: in the first level, Jahannam, sinful Muslims; in the second level, Sa‘ir, the Jews; in the third level, Lazā, the Christians; in the fourth level, Hutamah, the Sabians; in the fifth level, Saqar, the Magians; in the sixth level, the polytheists; and in the seventh level, the hypocrites, which is the lowest level. And Allah knows best what is correct. It should be noted that Hell has seven gates, while Paradise has eight gates.
