إِنَّ عِبَادِى لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَـٰنٌ إِلَّا مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلْغَاوِينَ ﴿42﴾
"Certainly, you shall have no authority over My slaves, except those who follow you of the Ghâwûn (Mushrikûn and those who go astray, criminals, polytheists, and evil-doers).

(Ayah42){اِنَّ عِبَادِيْ لَيْسَ لَكَ … :} This is an explanation of the previous statement, and the exception is disconnected. 42. 1. That is, your plot will not work against My righteous servants. This does not mean that they will never commit any sin, but rather it means that they will not commit such a sin after which they do not feel remorse and do not repent, because it is only that sin which leads to a person's destruction—after which a person does not feel regret and does not have the urge to turn back to Allah in repentance. Only after such a sin does a person continue to commit sin after sin. And ultimately, eternal ruin and destruction become his fate. And the characteristic of the people of faith is that they do not persist in sin, but rather, they immediately repent and strive to avoid it in the future.

You will have no authority [23] over My (true) servants. Your authority will only be over those who follow you among the misguided.

To What Extent Has Shaytan Been Given Authority?

Shaytan has only been given the authority that he can mislead a person through deception, trickery, lying, whispering evil suggestions, entangling him in worldly benefits, and giving false hopes and promises—if he can do so. However, he has absolutely not been given the authority to forcibly drag anyone away from the path of Allah and put him on his own path. As has already been mentioned in Surah Ibrahim, verse 22, Shaytan himself will confess before the people of Hell that he made false promises to them and called them towards himself, for which he had no proof, yet they accepted his invitation. Even though he had no power over them, therefore, they should not blame him today but rather lament their own intellects.
