And Mûsâ (Moses) said: "If you disbelieve, you and all on earth together, then verily Allâh is Rich (Free of all needs), Owner of all Praise."

(Ayah8){وَقَالَمُوْسٰۤىاِنْتَكْفُرُوْۤا …:} That is, if you and all the people of the earth and the heavens are ungrateful, then the harm of this ingratitude will reach only you; nothing of Allah Almighty will be harmed, He has no need of your gratitude nor does He care about your ingratitude. His being is worthy of every praise, whether anyone praises Him or not. Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates a Hadith Qudsi that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ يَاعِبَادِيْ! لَوْأَنَّأَوَّلَكُمْوَآخِرَكُمْ،وَإِنْسَكُمْوَجِنَّكُمْ،كَانُوْاعَلٰیأَتْقٰیقَلْبِرَجُلٍوَاحِدٍمِنْكُمْ،مَازَادَذٰلِكَفِيْمُلْكِيْشَيْئًا،يَاعِبَادِيْ ! لَوْأَنَّأَوَّلَكُمْوَآخِرَكُمْ،وَإِنْسَكُمْوَجِنَّكُمْ،كَانُوْاعَلٰیأَفْجَرِقَلْبِرَجُلٍوَاحِدٍمِنْكُمْ،مَانَقَصَذٰلِكَمِنْمُلْكِيْشَيْئًا،يَاعِبَادِيْ! لَوْأَنَّأَوَّلَكُمْوَآخِرَكُمْ،وَإِنْسَكُمْوَجِنَّكُمْ،قَامُوْافِيْصَعِيْدٍوَاحِدٍفَسَأَلُوْنِيْ،فَأَعْطَيْتُكُلَّإِنْسَانٍمَسْأَلَتَهُ،مَانَقَصَذٰلِكَمِمَّاعِنْدِيْإِلاَّكَمَايَنْقُصُالْمِخْيَطُإِذَاأُدْخِلَالْبَحْرَ ][ مسلم، البر والصلۃ، باب تحریم الظلم : ۲۵۷۷ ] "Allah Almighty says: O My servants! If the first of you and the last of you, the humans among you and the jinn among you, all become like the heart of the most pious man among you, this will not increase My kingdom in anything. And O My servants! If the first of you and the last of you, the humans among you and the jinn among you, all become like the heart of the most wicked man among you, this will not decrease My kingdom in anything. And O My servants! If the first of you and the last of you, the humans among you and the jinn among you, all stand in one field and ask Me, and I give every person what he has asked for, this will not decrease what is with Me in anything, except a needle takes when it is inserted into the sea."

8. 1. The meaning is that if a person is grateful to Allah, it is for his own benefit. If he is ungrateful, what harm does it cause to Allah? He is independent; if the whole world becomes ungrateful, what can be diminished from Him? Just as it is mentioned in the Hadith Qudsi, Allah Almighty says: "Ya Ibadi! Law anna awwalakum wa akhirakum wa insakum wa jinnakum kanu 'ala atqa qalbi rajulin wahidin minkum ma zada dhalika fi mulki shay'an, ya ibadi! Law anna awwalakum wa akhirakum wa insakum wa jinnakum kanu 'ala afjari qalbi rajulin wahidin minkum ma naqas dhalika fi mulki shay'an, ya ibadi law anna awwalakum wa akhirakum wa insakum wa jinnakum qamu fi sa'idin wahid fas'aluni fa a'taitu kulla insan mas'alatahu ma naqasa dhalika min mulki shay'an illa kama yanqusu al-mikhyatu idha udkhila fi al-bahr." O My servants! If your first and last, and likewise all humans and jinn, become like the heart of the most pious and God-fearing person among you (meaning, not a single one remains disobedient), it will not increase anything in My kingdom and sovereignty. O My servants! If your first and last, and all humans and jinn, become like the heart of the most sinful and wicked person among you, it will not decrease anything from My kingdom and sovereignty. O My servants! If your first and last, and all humans and jinn, gather in one plain and ask Me, and I give every person according to his request, it will not decrease anything from My treasures and sovereignty except as much as a needle decreases the water of the sea when dipped into it and taken out. 'Fasubhanahu wa ta'ala al-ghaniyyu al-hamid.'

8. And Moses said to you: "If you and everyone on earth were to disbelieve, surely Allah is free of need [10], worthy of all praise in Himself."
[10] Allah’s Independence:
That is, Allah is not harmed in any way by ingratitude, nor does it make any difference to His sovereignty, nor is He in need of anyone’s gratitude. He is free from all such things because He is, in His essence, worthy of praise. His deeds are such that everything in the universe is singing His praises. Thus, in Sahih Muslim, a Qudsi Hadith is mentioned in these words: Allah Almighty says, “O My servants! If all of you, the first and the last, humans and jinn, were to become pious to the highest degree, that would not increase My kingdom in the least. And if all of you, the first and the last, humans and jinn, were to become like the most wicked person, that would not decrease My kingdom in the least.” [مسلم، کتاب البر و الصلۃ۔ باب تحریم الظلم]
