وَسَكَنتُمْ فِى مَسَـٰكِنِ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمْ كَيْفَ فَعَلْنَا بِهِمْ وَضَرَبْنَا لَكُمُ ٱلْأَمْثَالَ ﴿45﴾

"And you dwelt in the dwellings of men who wronged themselves, and it was clear to you how We had dealt with them. And We put forth (many) parables for you."

(Ayah45){وَ سَكَنْتُمْ فِيْ مَسٰكِنِ الَّذِيْنَ ظَلَمُوْۤا اَنْفُسَهُمْ …:} That is, you are living in the same Arabia, Yemen, Iraq, and Egypt, etc., where before you lived the people of 'Ad, Thamud, the people of Nuh and Ibrahim, the people of Lut, and the people of Fir'awn, and the punishments that We sent upon them for their sins are all well known to you, even though you do not admit it verbally. We have explained to you through Our books and through the words of Our prophets by giving examples, such as the example of the fly (Hajj: 73), the example of the spider (Ankabut: 41), the example of the dog (A'raf: 176), and the example of the mirage (Nur: 39), etc. In addition, the fate of the previous disbelievers can also be meant as examples, such as 'Ad and Thamud, Fir'awn, the people of Nuh, and others. Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf

45. 1. That is, for admonition, We have already narrated the incidents of the previous nations, whose houses you now inhabit, and their ruins also invite you to reflect. If you do not take heed from them and do not care to avoid their fate, then it is your choice. Then you too should be prepared for the same outcome.

45. Even though you settled in the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, and it had become clear to you how We dealt with them, and We had set forth examples [45] for you.

[45] Although We had made this matter clear to you by giving examples of the fate of previous nations, that such a revolution can come. It has come before and it will continue to come, and their stories were also well-known among you, and you used to see with your own eyes their destroyed regions, and some of your people are still settled in those very areas today. Therefore, it is also quite possible that Allah Almighty may remove you from here and bring other people forward.
