Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah39) ➊ The meaning of { اَلْحَمْدُلِلّٰهِالَّذِيْوَهَبَلِيْ …: ’’ وَهَبَيَهَبُهِبَةً ‘‘} is to grant without any compensation. It is understood that children are a gift from Allah Almighty; they are not merely the result of accumulated means, otherwise every healthy couple would have children upon union. Rather, it is purely a divine grant, and that too according to His will—He may grant only sons, only daughters, both together, or keep someone childless. (See also Ash-Shura: 50) Razi has stated that it is understood from the Quran that both these sons were granted to Ibrahim (peace be upon him) at an old age, but the exact age at that time is not known; for this, only Israeli traditions are referred to. It is said that when Ismail (peace be upon him) was born, Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was ninety-nine (99) years old, and when Ishaq (peace be upon him) was born, he was one hundred and twelve (112) years old. However, according to the statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we can neither confirm nor deny this. ➋ The literal meaning of {لَسَمِيْعُالدُّعَآءِ:} is "the one who hears much supplication," but what is meant is "the one who accepts," as it is said, "So-and-so was heard," meaning the request was fulfilled.
