وَقَدْ مَكَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَلِلَّهِ ٱلْمَكْرُ جَمِيعًا ۖ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَكْسِبُ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ۗ وَسَيَعْلَمُ ٱلْكُفَّـٰرُ لِمَنْ عُقْبَى ٱلدَّارِ ﴿42﴾

And verily, those before them did devise plots, but all planning is Allâh’s. He knows what every person earns, and the disbelievers will know who gets the good end (final destination).

وَقَدْ waqad And certainly

عُقْبَى ʿuq'bā (is) the final
ٱلدَّارِ l-dāri the home

(Ayah42){وَ قَدْ مَكَرَ الَّذِيْنَ … :} That is, before them also the disbelievers made many schemes to trouble their messengers and to bring Islam down, this is nothing new that is happening only to you. Then, no scheme can do anything without Allah’s will, because the authority of everything is in His hands. So if any of their schemes succeeded, it was only in accordance with Allah’s wisdom; therefore, do not be distressed. These disbelievers will also soon know for whom the good end of this worldly home will be.

42. 1. That is, even before the polytheists of Makkah, people used to plot against the messengers, but no scheme or trick of theirs succeeded against the plan of Allah; similarly, in the future, none of their plotting will stand against the will of Allah.

42. 2. He will give reward and punishment accordingly; He rewards the righteous for their goodness and punishes the wicked for their evil.

42. Those before them also plotted [54], but all plotting belongs to Allah. He knows what every soul earns, and soon the disbelievers will know for whom is the final home in the Hereafter.

[54] That is, the nations before your people also made desperate efforts to stop the call to the true religion and to block its way. But in the end, only what Allah willed came to pass. Their schemes were of no avail before Allah’s decree, and the same will happen now. These deniers of the truth will soon come to know in whose favor the good end lies, and all the schemes they are devising to eliminate Islam are known to Allah, and He knows well how to counter them.
