وَٱلَّذِينَ يَصِلُونَ مَآ أَمَرَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦٓ أَن يُوصَلَ وَيَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ وَيَخَافُونَ سُوٓءَ ٱلْحِسَابِ ﴿21﴾
And those who join that which Allâh has commanded to be joined (i.e. they are good to their relatives and do not sever the bond of kinship), and fear their Lord, and dread the terrible reckoning (i.e. abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which Allâh has forbidden and perform all kinds of good deeds which Allâh has ordained).
وَٱلَّذِينَ wa-alladhīna And those who
يَصِلُونَ yaṣilūna join

بِهِۦٓ bihi [for it]

(Ayah21) ➊ {وَ الَّذِيْنَ يَصِلُوْنَ مَاۤ اَمَرَ اللّٰهُ بِهٖۤ اَنْ يُّوْصَلَ :} That is, they maintain ties of kinship, whether the relatives are close or distant, according to their respective ranks. Or it means that they recognize and fulfill the rights of Allah Almighty, the Noble Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), common Muslims, neighbors, relatives, friends, orphans, widows—in short, everyone.
{ وَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ …:} They fulfill the obligations imposed by Him and avoid the sins He has forbidden. Raghib said: “Khashyah is such fear that is accompanied by reverence, and most often its cause is knowledge.” As He said: «{ اِنَّمَا يَخْشَى اللّٰهَ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ الْعُلَمٰٓؤُا [ فاطر : ۲۸ ] “Only those of His servants fear Allah who have knowledge.” Khawf refers to any kind of fear; some have said both (khashyah and khawf) are synonymous, the difference is mostly in usage, not absolute. { وَ يَخَافُوْنَ سُوْٓءَ الْحِسَابِ :} Therefore, they keep accounting for themselves even before that time. For the explanation of {’’ سُوْٓءَ الْحِسَابِ ‘‘}, see the commentary of Surah Ra’d, Ayah (18).

21. And those who join together what Allah has commanded to be joined, and fear their Lord, and dread the terrible reckoning [29].

The Qualities of Those Who Accept Allah’s Guidance:

In the following few verses, several qualities are mentioned which are adopted in their way of life by those who accept the guidance sent down by Allah as the truth. The first quality is that they fulfill the covenant made with Allah. This covenant refers to the Covenant of Alast, which has been placed in the nature of every human being, and when a person realizes that he is being nurtured only by the sustenance granted by Allah and is using only the abilities bestowed by Him, then he comes to know by himself that only He is worthy of worship. And if such a benefactor is abandoned and servitude is given to another, this would be ingratitude. Their second quality is that they do not break the covenants made with other people. This includes all agreements such as buying and selling, transactions, and marriage, etc. The third quality is that they take care of all those relationships upon whose correctness the welfare and success of human social life depend, whether these relationships are related to society or civilization, and in this regard, the rights of parents, close relatives, orphans, the needy, and neighbors all come under consideration. The fourth quality is that in all their affairs, whether related to acts of worship, dealings, or marriages, in every matter, they avoid disobedience to Allah and fear His punishment. And the fifth quality is that they are always concerned about the reckoning of the Hereafter; they do not rely on their good deeds but keep praying to Allah that He makes the stage of reckoning easy for them.
