He [Ya‘qûb (Jacob)] said: "Nay, but your ownselves have beguiled you into something. So patience is most fitting (for me). May be Allâh will bring them (back) all to me. Truly He! Only He is All-Knowing, All-Wise."

(Ayah83) ➊ {قَالَبَلْسَوَّلَتْلَكُمْ …:} When, according to the suggestion of the eldest brother, the remaining brothers reached Canaan and related all this to their father Yaqub (peace be upon him), he said that what you are saying is not the real matter, rather your hearts have made a matter attractive for you. Now my task is beautiful patience (sabr jameel). The same words came from his mouth as when he heard the news of Yusuf being eaten by a wolf. How greatly Allah gives courage to His servants, especially the messengers, that even after hearing news that would tear the heart to pieces, there is neither complaint nor protest, nor panic nor wailing. At first, upon the news of one son, there was beautiful patience; now, upon the news of two more sons, again the same beautiful patience. Previously, help was sought only from Allah: «{ وَاللّٰهُالْمُسْتَعَانُعَلٰىمَاتَصِفُوْنَ }»[ یوسف : ۱۸ ] and now, relying on Him, the lamp of hope was kept lit in the heart: «{ عَسَىاللّٰهُاَنْيَّاْتِيَنِيْبِهِمْجَمِيْعًا }» There is hope that Allah will bring all three of them to me; surely He is the All-Knowing, the All-Wise, He knows everything and His wisdom has no limits.
➋ From this, it is understood that even the truthful statement of a liar is not accepted. As for how Yaqub (peace be upon him) was expressing hope for meeting all of them, firstly, he was a prophet of Allah, and secondly, he was certain that the interpretation of Yusuf’s dream would come to pass. However, the separation from his beloved son, then the lack of knowledge about the state of his dear one, the unknown time for the fulfillment of the interpretation, and now the continuous shocks of the loss of two more sons, and the effort to bear all this silently, had a very deep effect on the temperament of Yaqub (peace be upon him).

83. 1 Since Hazrat Yaqub (علیہ السلام) was unaware of the reality of the situation and Allah had not informed him of the actual event through revelation, he thought that these sons of his had made up the story themselves. What exactly had they done with Binyamin? Hazrat Yaqub (علیہ السلام) did not have definite knowledge of this, but based on the incident with Yusuf (علیہ السلام), he understandably had doubts and suspicions about them.
83. 2 Now again, there was no option except patience, however, along with patience, he did not let go of hope. for Yusuf (علیہ السلام), Binyamin, and that eldest son who, out of shame, stayed there in Egypt, thinking that either his father would allow him to return in this state or he would somehow bring Binyamin back with him.

83. [Jacob] replied, "No! Rather, your souls have made up a story for you. So patience is most fitting. Perhaps Allah will bring them all to me. Indeed, He is the All-Knowing, the All-Wise."
[80] The Recovery of Lost Property Does Not Prove Theft:
These are exactly the same words that Sayyiduna Ya'qubؑ had said when the brothers of Yusuf came to him at night weeping after throwing Yusufؑ into the well, and fabricated a false story to tell him. This time, after hearing the whole incident from these sons of his, the admonition he gave them meant: Could you not have said that the recovery of a lost item from someone's belongings is not definite proof that the person has certainly stolen it? It is possible that someone else placed that item among his belongings. Then, by further accusing Yusuf of theft, you made the accusation against Binyamin even more solid. From this admonition, two things become clear: first, that Sayyiduna Ya'qubؑ was firmly convinced that these sons of his could not be thieves; and second, that the brothers of Yusuf always remained suspicious of these two younger brothers.
[81] By "all," it refers to Yusuf, Binyamin, and their eldest brother who, out of shame and remorse, stayed behind in Egypt.
