48. 1 Allah Almighty had also endowed Prophet Yusuf (علیہ السلام) with the knowledge of interpretation, so he immediately grasped the essence of this dream. He interpreted the seven fat cows as seven years in which there would be abundant produce, and the seven thin and lean cows as seven years of drought, the opposite. Similarly, he took the seven green ears to mean that the land would yield plenty, and the seven dry ears to mean that in those seven years, the land would not produce. Then he also suggested a strategy: for seven years, you should continuously cultivate, and whatever grain is produced, harvest it and store it with its ears so that the grain remains more secure. Then, when the seven years of famine come, this stored grain will benefit you, which you are now stockpiling.
48. 2 By مِمَّاتُحصنُوْنَ is meant those grains that are preserved for sowing again.
