ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ أَنۢبَآءِ ٱلْغَيْبِ نُوحِيهِ إِلَيْكَ ۖ وَمَا كُنتَ لَدَيْهِمْ إِذْ أَجْمَعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَمْكُرُونَ ﴿102﴾
That is of the news of the Ghaib (Unseen) which We reveal to you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم). You were not (present) with them when they arranged their plan together, and (while) they were plotting.
ذَٰلِكَ dhālika That
مِنْ min (is) from
أَنۢبَآءِ anbāi the news
ٱلْغَيْبِ l-ghaybi (of) the unseen
نُوحِيهِ nūḥīhi which We reveal
إِلَيْكَ ۖ ilayka to you
وَمَا wamā And not
كُنتَ kunta you were
لَدَيْهِمْ ladayhim with them
إِذْ idh when
أَجْمَعُوٓا۟ ajmaʿū they put together
أَمْرَهُمْ amrahum their plan
وَهُمْ wahum while they
يَمْكُرُونَ yamkurūna (were) plotting

(Ayah102) ➊ { ذٰلِكَ مِنْ اَنْۢبَآءِ الْغَيْبِ نُوْحِيْهِ اِلَيْكَ :} That is, these unseen reports with their authentic details We have informed you through revelation; without Our revelation, how could you have known them? The purpose of this was to warn the disbelievers of Makkah that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah; if he were not a true Messenger, how could he have known these events from thousands of years ago and narrated them to you?

{ وَ مَا كُنْتَ لَدَيْهِمْ اِذْ اَجْمَعُوْۤا اَمْرَهُمْ … :} That is, if We had not informed you, you would have had no knowledge, because you were not present with them at that time. The Noble Qur’an has repeated this statement in several places with {’’ وَ مَا كُنْتَ ‘‘} and has reminded of its favor that you had no knowledge of past events, nor were you present when all this happened; it is We who have informed you of these events through revelation. Therefore, the people of Makkah and other disbelievers should never doubt your Prophethood. There is also a lesson in this for those Muslims who say that our Prophet (peace be upon him) already knew everything; if that were so, what was the need for revelation? All the verses of the Noble Qur’an with {’’ وَ مَا كُنْتَ ‘‘} negate his knowledge of the unseen. ➌ In this verse, there is also an indication that the story of Yusuf (peace be upon him) as transmitted by the People of the Book with its details is not all authentic, because if it were authentic, then none of its statements would contradict the Noble Qur’an, which is a guardian over their books and a protector of their authentic contents. See Surah Al-Ma’idah (48). Therefore, due to the mixing of truth and falsehood, their information cannot be relied upon.

12. 1. That is, with Yusuf (علیہ السلام), when they threw him into the well, or it refers to Yaqub (علیہ السلام), meaning they deceived him by saying that a wolf had eaten Yusuf and this is his shirt, which is soaked in blood. Allah Almighty has also negated here that the Noble Prophet ﷺ had knowledge of the unseen, but this negation is not of absolute knowledge because Allah informed you through revelation. This negation is of witnessing, that at that time you were not present there. Similarly, you did not have any connection or relation with such people from whom you could have heard it. It is only Allah Almighty who informed you of this incident, which is proof that you are the true Prophet of Allah and revelation is sent to you from Allah Almighty. Allah Almighty has, in many other places as well, negated the unseen and witnessing in this way. For example, see Surah Aal-e-Imran (ذٰلِكَ مِنْ اَنْۢبَاۗءِ الْغَيْبِ نُوْحِيْهِ اِلَيْكَ ۭ وَمَا كُنْتَ لَدَيْهِمْ اِذْ يُلْقُوْنَ اَقْلَامَھُمْ اَيُّھُمْ يَكْفُلُ مَرْيَمَ ۠وَمَا كُنْتَ لَدَيْهِمْ اِذْ يَخْتَصِمُوْنَ) 3. Aal-e-Imran:44) (وَلٰكِنَّآ اَنْشَاْنَا قُرُوْنًا فَتَطَاوَلَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْعُمُرُ ۚ وَمَا كُنْتَ ثَاوِيًا فِيْٓ اَهْلِ مَدْيَنَ تَتْلُوْا عَلَيْهِمْ اٰيٰتِنَا ۙ وَلٰكِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِيْنَ 45؀ وَمَا كُنْتَ بِجَانِبِ الطُّوْرِ اِذْ نَادَيْنَا وَلٰكِنْ رَّحْمَةً مِّنْ رَّبِّكَ لِتُنْذِرَ قَوْمًا مَّآ اَتٰىهُمْ مِّنْ نَّذِيْرٍ مِّنْ قَبْلِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُوْنَ 46؀) 28. Al-Qasas:46-45) (مَا كَانَ لِيَ مِنْ عِلْمٍۢ بِالْمَلَاِ الْاَعْلٰٓي اِذْ يَخْتَصِمُوْنَ 69؀ اِنْ يُّوْحٰٓى اِلَيَّ اِلَّآ اَنَّمَآ اَنَا نَذِيْرٌ مُّبِيْنٌ 70؀) 38. Saad:70-69).

102. (O Prophet!) This (story too) is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you [97]. You were not with them when the brothers of Yusuf agreed upon their plan and were plotting their scheme.

Answering the Question of the Disbelievers of Makkah is a Proof of Your Prophethood:

Although there are many differences found in the Torah and other Israelite traditions. For example, in the Quran, the Prophets are presented in a pure and noble human form, whereas the Israelite traditions accuse them at various places. Secondly, the Quran emphasizes more on good admonitions and reminders of the signs of Allah rather than just narrating the story, while the Israelite traditions are devoid of this. However, the fundamental aspects of the story are very much similar, and it is also certain that you ﷺ were not present at that time, nor did you read the Israelite traditions, nor did you benefit from the Jewish scholars. Therefore, for you to narrate this incident in such a manner is not possible except through divine revelation. Thus, this is a clear proof of your Prophethood.
