Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 85) ➊ {وَيٰقَوْمِاَوْفُواالْمِكْيَالَوَالْمِيْزَانَبِالْقِسْطِ : } Previously it was stated not to diminish in measure and weight; now it is further emphasized to give full measure and weight, neither give less when giving nor take more when receiving. See also Surah Al-Mutaffifin (1 to 3).
➋ { وَلَاتَبْخَسُواالنَّاسَاَشْيَآءَهُمْ :} Previously, the matter of measure and weight was specifically mentioned; now, through these words, every method of transaction is included, for example, through any kind of meters, or by counting, in short, do not give people less of their things in any way, nor take more.
➌ {وَلَاتَعْثَوْافِيالْاَرْضِمُفْسِدِيْنَ : ’’عَثِيَيَعْثٰي‘‘} The verb ‘athiya ya‘thā is on the pattern of { ’’رَضِيَيَرْضٰي‘‘ }, to exceed the limits in causing corruption, for example, their habit was that if anyone protested against short measure or weight, they would all attack him together. Similarly, whenever they got the chance, they would commit robberies and snatch things from people. In summary, Shu‘ayb (peace be upon him) forbade them from every kind of corruption.
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
85. 1. The call of the Prophets (peace be upon them) consists of two important foundations: 1. Fulfilling the rights of Allah, 2. Fulfilling the rights of the servants. The former is indicated by the word (اَعْبُدُواللّٰہَ) and the latter by (وَلَاتَنْقُصُواالْمِكْيَالَوَالْمِيْزَانَ) (11. Hud:84), and now, as an emphasis, they are being commanded to give full measure and weight with justice and are being forbidden from giving people less than due, because this too is a great crime in the sight of Allah. Allah has described the heinousness and evil of this crime and its punishment in the Hereafter in an entire Surah. (وَيْلٌلِّـلْمُطَفِّفِيْنَ ۙ الَّذِيْنَاِذَااكْتَالُوْاعَلَيالنَّاسِيَسْتَوْفُوْنَ ڮ وَاِذَاكَالُوْهُمْاَوْوَّزَنُوْهُمْيُخْسِرُوْنَ ۭ) (83. Al-Mutaffifin:1 to 3) Woe to those who give less in measure. These are the people who, when they take measure from people, take it in full, but when they give by measure or weight to others, they give less.
85. 2. Disobedience to Allah, especially when it relates to the rights of the servants, such as here in the matter of deficiency and excess in measure and weight, certainly causes corruption and disorder in the land, from which they have been forbidden.
