Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 74) {فَلَمَّا ذَهَبَ عَنْ اِبْرٰهِيْمَ الرَّوْعُ … :} The discussion of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) regarding the people of Lut was with the angels, as is explicitly mentioned in Surah Al-Ankabut (32). Here, Allah the Exalted has described it as if he was arguing with Him, because whatever the angels were doing, they were doing so only by Allah the Exalted’s command. {’’ يُجَادِلُنَا ‘‘} The imperfect tense is used for hikayat haal, i.e., to depict the scene of that moment.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

74. 1. By this argument is meant that Ibrahim (peace be upon him) said to the angels that the town you are going to destroy, Lut (peace be upon him) is also present there. To this, the angels replied that we know that Lut (peace be upon him) also lives there. But we will save him and his family except for his wife.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

74. Then, when Abraham's fear had left him and the good news had come to him, he began to plead with Us concerning the people of Lot [85].

Sayyiduna Ibrahim ؑ's Discussion About the Punishment on the People of Lut:

In this verse, "with us" refers to "with our angels," meaning that when Sayyiduna Ibrahim ؑ's fear turned into happiness, he began to discuss with our angels that Lut ؑ himself is present there, so how will you destroy that town? And such-and-such believer is also present, and such-and-such as well. The purpose of this was only that if the punishment could be delayed, perhaps the people would come to faith and they might be granted some more respite. The reason for this was that Sayyiduna Ibrahim ؑ was soft-hearted and wished that somehow Allah's creation could be saved from divine punishment.
