Such were ‘Âd (people). They rejected the Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of their Lord and disobeyed His Messengers, and followed the command of every proud obstinate (oppressor of the truth, from their leaders).

(Ayah 59) ➊ { وَتِلْكَعَادٌ:} And these were ‘Aad; this can refer to their regions as well as the people whose story has been mentioned. ➋ {جَحَدُوْابِاٰيٰتِرَبِّهِمْ:’’ جَحَدُوْا ‘‘} means to deny something proven by evidence. By signs are meant the countless signs of the Oneness of the Lord Almighty in the universe, the verses revealed to Hud (peace be upon him), and his standing alone fearlessly before the entire nation, etc. In short, this unfortunate nation flatly denied the clear signs, miracles, and verses even after understanding them. ➌ { عَصَوْارُسُلَهٗ :} Although they disobeyed only Hud (peace be upon him), since disobeying one prophet is like disobeying all prophets, it is said: “They disobeyed His messengers.” (Shawkani) ➍ {وَاتَّبَعُوْۤااَمْرَكُلِّجَبَّارٍعَنِيْدٍ: ’’ عَنِيْدٍ ‘‘} One who is extremely stubborn; every person who does not accept the truth and opposes it with intensity, referring to the chiefs of the nation.

59. 1 Only one prophet, Hud (علیہ السلام), was sent to the people of 'Ad, but here Allah Almighty has stated that they disobeyed the messengers of Allah. By this, either it is intended to clarify that the denial of one messenger is as if the denial of all messengers, because it is necessary to have faith in all messengers. Or it means that this nation had advanced so far in their disbelief and denial that even if, after Hud (علیہ السلام), We had sent many messengers to this nation, they would have denied all of them. And there was absolutely no hope that they would have believed in any messenger. Or it is possible that other prophets were also sent, and this nation denied each one of them.
59. 2 That is, they denied the messengers of Allah, but this nation followed those who were rebellious and disobedient to the commands of Allah.

59. And these are the (ruined) dwellings of the people of ‘Ad. They denied the signs of their Lord, disobeyed His messengers [67], and followed the command of every stubborn tyrant.
[67] That is, the tall, strong, and mighty nation that lived with such pomp and whose fame was widespread—look at their ruined remains and take a lesson from them, for this punishment befell them as a result of denying the signs of Allah. Only Hud ؑ was sent as a messenger to them, but Allah has used the word “messengers” here, probably because the call of all messengers has always been of the same nature, based on monotheism and the fundamentals of religion. Therefore, denying one messenger is, in reality, equivalent to denying all messengers.
