Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
Allâh said: "Verily, the invocation of you both is accepted. So you both keep to the Straight Way (i.e. keep on doing good deeds and preaching Allâh’s Message with patience), and follow not the path of those who know not (the truth i.e. to believe in the Oneness of Allâh, and also to believe in the Reward of Allâh: Paradise)."

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 89) ➊ { قَالَقَدْاُجِيْبَتْدَّعْوَتُكُمَا :} That is, indeed, the supplication of both of you has been accepted. It is understood from this that Harun (peace be upon him) was also included with Musa (peace be upon him) in this supplication. Some scholars have said that Musa (peace be upon him) would supplicate and Harun (peace be upon him) would say "Ameen," but I have not found this in the Noble Qur’an or in any hadith.
➋ { فَاسْتَقِيْمَا :} One meaning of this is that remain steadfast upon the call, indeed your supplication is accepted, but the manifestation of acceptance may be delayed, so do not become negligent in your call due to the delay. Because it is only in Allah’s knowledge when the effect of acceptance will appear. The second meaning is that now remain firm upon this supplication against them, lest when My punishment comes, you begin to intercede for them. This is similar to when Nuh (peace be upon him) supplicated against his people, so Allah informed him that all these disbelievers would be drowned, but now do not speak to Me regarding these wrongdoers (see Hud: 37). Allah knew of the tenderness in the hearts of Nuh and Musa (peace be upon them) despite their supplication against their people, so He emphasized to them beforehand to remain steadfast upon their supplication. However, Nuh (peace be upon him) still interceded for his son and had to hear Allah’s reproach, upon which he sought forgiveness. See Surah Hud (45 to 47).
➌ { وَلَاتَتَّبِعٰٓنِّسَبِيْلَالَّذِيْنَلَايَعْلَمُوْنَ :} That is, do not follow the path of those who lose courage in the work of calling (to Allah), or who, after supplicating, want their request to be fulfilled immediately, and if it is not fulfilled at once, they begin to complain that we made many supplications but our Lord did not accept them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ يُسْتَجَابُلِأَحَدِكُمْمَالَمْيَعْجَلْ ، يَقُوْلُدَعَوْتُفَلَمْيُسْتَجَبْلِيْ ][ بخاری، الدعوات، باب یستجاب للعبد ما لم یعجل : ۶۳۴۰۔ مسلم : ۲۷۳۵، عن أبی ھریرۃ رضی اللہ عنہ ] "The supplication of any one of you continues to be accepted as long as he does not become hasty, saying: 'I supplicated but my supplication was not accepted.'"
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
89. 1. One meaning of this is to remain steadfast in your supplication, even if its manifestation is delayed. Because your supplication has certainly been accepted, but when We will bring it into effect? That depends purely on Our will and wisdom. Thus, some commentators have stated that forty years after this supplication, Pharaoh and his people were destroyed, and according to the supplication, when Pharaoh began to drown, he declared his faith, which did not benefit him at all. The second meaning is that you should continue your preaching and invitation, the guidance and leadership of the Children of Israel, and your efforts to deliver them from the slavery of Pharaoh.
98. 2. That is, do not be like those who do not know Allah’s way, His law, and His wisdom and purposes, but now wait and be patient. Allah, according to His wisdom and purpose, will certainly fulfill His promise sooner or later, because He does not break His promise.
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
89. Allah said: Your prayer has been accepted. So remain steadfast, both of you, and do not follow the path of those [99] who do not know.
[99] The Importance of Patience and Steadfastness for Success:
In response to the prayers of the prophets, Allah Almighty instructed them and the community of Muslims to observe patience, steadfastness, and perseverance. He also commanded that those who consider the ultimate goal of success in life to be merely the wealth, riches, and splendor of this world should not be given any attention whatsoever, because their viewpoint is based purely on ignorance. Allah Almighty will soon deliver you from such people.
