Assalam, i had an argument with a brother regarding whether or not sperm is pure?, i gave him the hadith of nana aisha RA which she expressed that she used to wash it off the prophets garment and he will pray in it,

He said that "if it Was not a najasa, she would not have washed it or scraped it" a fascinating counterclaim that left me argue less cause it was for the sake of Allah SWT,

I later went online again and i saw the post that was made here regarding how pure some Islamic scholars differ and that the most best view is that it is pure, i know imam shafi'i too agrees it is pure but i have no proff to lay on, i have searched the internet and can't find comments of mega muslim scholars that commented on such.

My questions
1. I need strong proofs to base my argument
2 if urine drops sprayed entirely on some ones trousers while urinating, should he sprinkle water all over it or wash the whole clothes .

Solution
The correct position supported by the authentic hadith and the statements of the major scholars is that semen (mani) is pure. The main evidence is the hadith of Aishah in Sahih Muslim.

  1. Aishahؓ said:

“I used to scratch it off the garment of the Messenger of Allah.”
Reference: Sahih Muslim 288

Scratching is only valid for something pure. If it were najis it would not be removed by merely scratching.

  1. Another narration:

“I used to rub the semen from the garment of the Messenger of Allah when it was dry, and I washed it when it was wet.”
Reference: Musnad Ahmad 25046 and...

These two types of cleaning (scratching and washing) show that washing was done for cleanliness, not because of impurity. If semen were najis it would always require water. The acceptance of rubbing or scratching proves purity.

  1. In Sahih al Bukhari, Aishahؓ said:

لقد رأيتني أفركه من ثوب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فركا فيصلي فيه

“I used to scrape it from the garment of the Messenger of Allah and he would pray in it.”
Reference: Sahih al Bukhari 229

Praying in a garment after only scraping the semen confirms its purity.

Scholars

  1. Imam al Shafi’i said clearly in al Umm 1/77 that semen is pure and does not require washing.
  2. Ibn Taymiyyah said:

“The correct view is that it is pure.”
Reference: Majmu al Fatawa 21/476

  1. Ibn al Qayyim wrote that semen is closer to sweat than to urine and therefore pure.
    Reference: Zad al Maad 1/198
  2. Ibn Hazm stated:

“Semen is pure.”
Reference: al Muhalla 1/107

  1. Shaykh Ibn Baz said that semen is pure and that the hadith of Aishah proves this.
    Reference: Fatawa Ibn Baz 6/358
  2. Shaykh Ibn Uthaymin said:

إزالته تكون بالحك إذا كان يابسا وهذا دليل على طهارته
“Its removal can be done by scratching when it is dry, and this is evidence of its purity.”
Reference: Sharh al Mumti 1/445

These evidences together make the stronger opinion that semen is pure.

Second question: urine splashing on clothing.

Adult urine is najis by unanimous agreement and must be washed with water. The Prophet instructed regarding the Bedouin’s urine:

أريقوا على بوله سجلا من ماء
“Pour a bucket of water over his urine.”
Reference: Sahih al Bukhari 220

This proves that urine must be washed off the exact area that was affected. Only the location of the impurity must be washed, not the whole garment.

Sprinkling water is only for doubtful cases or specifically for the urine of a baby boy. The Prophet said:

“The urine of a baby girl is washed, and the urine of a baby boy is sprinkled.”
Reference: Sunan Abi Dawud 375 and authenticated by al Albani

This ruling is specific to infants and does not apply to adults.

Therefore:

If urine hits the clothing, wash the affected spot only. Washing the entire garment is not required unless the impurity spread everywhere.
