Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We chased a rabbit at the place of Mar al-Zahran. The companions ran after it, I caught it and seized it, then brought it to Abu Talha. He slaughtered it with a stone and gave me its thigh to take to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). So he ate it. The narrator Hisham bin Zaid says: I asked (the narrator of the hadith, his grandfather Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him): Did you eat it? He said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) accepted it. Imam Tirmidhi says: 1- This hadith is Hasan Sahih (good and authentic), 2- In this chapter, hadiths have also been narrated from Jabir, Ammar, and Muhammad bin Safwan (may Allah be pleased with them), 3- Most of the scholars act upon this; they do not see any objection in eating rabbit, 4- While some scholars consider eating rabbit to be disliked; these people say: (i.e., the female rabbit) experiences menstrual blood.
