Hadith 1646
حَدَّثَنَا
هَنَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا
أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ
الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ
شَقِيقِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ
أَبِي مُوسَى، قَالَ : سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يُقَاتِلُ شَجَاعَةً ، وَيُقَاتِلُ حَمِيَّةً ، وَيُقَاتِلُ رِيَاءً ، فَأَيُّ ذَلِكَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " مَنْ قَاتَلَ لِتَكُونَ كَلِمَةُ اللَّهِ هِيَ الْعُلْيَا ، فَهُوَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : وَفِي الْبَاب ، عَنْ عُمَرَ ، وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ .
Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was asked: A man fights to show bravery, another fights out of zealotry, and a third fights for ostentation—among these, who is in the way of Allah? He replied: “Whoever fights so that the word of Allah is exalted, he is in the way of Allah.” © Imam Tirmidhi says:

Hadith 1647
حَدَّثَنَا
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا
عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ، عَنْ
يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ
مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ
عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَقَّاصٍ اللَّيْثِيِّ، عَنْ
عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّمَا الْأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّةِ ، وَإِنَّمَا لِامْرِئٍ مَا نَوَى ، فَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ ، فَهِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ ، وَمَنْ كَانَتْ هِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى دُنْيَا يُصِيبُهَا أَوِ امْرَأَةٍ يَتَزَوَّجُهَا ، فَهِجْرَتُهُ إِلَى مَا هَاجَرَ إِلَيْهِ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ، وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، وَسُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ ، وَغَيْرِ وَاحِدٍ مِنَ الْأَئِمَّةِ هَذَا ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، وَلَا نَعْرِفُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ حَدِيثِ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ : يَنْبَغِي أَنْ نَضَعَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ فِي كُلِّ بَابٍ .
'Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Actions are judged by intentions, and every person will get what he intended. So, whoever's migration was for Allah and His Messenger, his migration will be for Allah and His Messenger. And whoever migrated for worldly gain or to marry a woman, his migration will be for that for which he migrated." © Imam Tirmidhi says:
1- This hadith is Hasan Sahih,
2- Malik bin Anas, Sufyan Thawri, and many Imams of hadith have narrated it from Yahya bin Sa'id; we know it only from the narration of Yahya bin Sa'id al-Ansari,
3- Abdur Rahman bin Mahdi says: We should include this hadith in every chapter.
