1؎ : Informing others of someone's death is called «نعی». «نعی» is permissible; the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam himself informed about the death of Najashi. Similarly, he also informed the people about the deaths of Zayd bin Harithah, Ja'far bin Abi Talib, and Abdullah bin Rawahah radi Allahu anhum. Here, the «نعی» that is mentioned to be avoided refers to the «نعی» of the people of ignorance (ahl al-jahiliyyah). In the era of ignorance, when someone died, they would send a person who would go around the neighborhoods and markets announcing the death.

English Commentary: 1: Informing others of someone's death is called "na'i" (announcement of death). Na'i is permissible; even the Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) himself informed about the death of Najashi. Similarly, he conveyed the news of the deaths of Zayd ibn Harithah, Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, and Abdullah ibn Rawahah (radi Allahu anhum). Here, the type of na'i that is being warned against refers to the na'i practiced by the people of Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic ignorance). In the era of Jahiliyyah, when someone died, they would send a person who would go around the neighborhoods and markets announcing the death.
