Hadith 961

´Ibn Abbas narrated that:` The Messenger of Allah said about the (Black) Stone: "By Allah! Allah will raise it on the Day of Resurrection with two eyes by which it sees and a tongue that it speaks with, testifying to whoever touched it in truth."

1؎:
That is, it means that he kissed or touched it. This hadith should be understood according to its apparent meaning. Allah Ta‘ala is fully capable of granting the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad) eyes and a tongue, and bestowing upon it the ability to see and speak. Some people have interpreted this hadith as a metaphor, saying that it refers to Allah rewarding the one who touches the Black Stone and not letting his effort go to waste. However, this is nothing but philosophical hair-splitting.
The correct view is that the hadith should be taken upon its apparent meaning.
And one should have faith in it occurring as such.

Benefits and Issues:

➊ There is great reward in kissing the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad), therefore, if it is possible to kiss it, one should certainly do so.

➋ The conditions of the Day of Judgment are different from those of this world. The indication of Umar radi Allahu anhu is regarding benefit in this world, while the indication of Ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhu is regarding the Hereafter, when even inanimate objects will bear witness in favor of the righteous and against the evildoers.

➌ Kissing with the truth means to kiss while remaining firm upon the belief in Tawhid (the Oneness of Allah) and avoiding shirk (associating partners with Allah), because in the presence of disbelief (kufr) and major shirk (shirk akbar), even the greatest of good deeds become null and void.
