باب مَا جَاءَ فِي الْكُحْلِ لِلصَّائِمِChapter: What Has Been Related About Kuhl For The Fasting Person

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ وَاصِلٍ الْكُوفِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَطِيَّةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاتِكَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : اشْتَكَتْ عَيْنِي ، " أَفَأَكْتَحِلُ وَأَنَا صَائِمٌ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ " . قَالَ : وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : حَدِيثُ أَنَسٍ حَدِيثٌ لَيْسَ إِسْنَادُهُ بِالْقَوِيِّ ، وَلَا يَصِحُّ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي هَذَا الْبَاب شَيْءٌ ، وَأَبُو عَاتِكَةَ يُضَعَّفُ ، وَاخْتَلَفَ أَهْلُ الْعِلْمِ فِي الْكُحْلِ لِلصَّائِمِ فَكَرِهَهُ بَعْضُهُمْ ، وَهُوَ قَوْلُ سُفْيَانَ ، وَابْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ ، وَأَحْمَدَ ، وَإِسْحَاق ، وَرَخَّصَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ فِي الْكُحْلِ لِلصَّائِمِ ، وَهُوَ قَوْلُ الشَّافِعِيِّ .
´Anas bin Malik narrated that :` a man came to the Prophet and said: "My eyes are bothering me, can I use Kuhl while I am fasting?" He said: "Yes."

English Commentary:

Their evidence is the hadith of Ma‘bad bin Hawdhah, the narration of which has been recorded by Abu Dawud. In it, it is mentioned that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam ordered the application of kohl mixed with musk at bedtime and said that the fasting person should abstain from it. However, this hadith is munkar (rejected), as Abu Dawud has transmitted from Yahya ibn Ma‘in. Therefore, it is not correct to use this hadith as evidence for the dislike (karahah) of applying kohl for the fasting person. The preferred (rajih) view is that it is permissible for the fasting person to apply kohl without any dislike.
