Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahman Freywai
English Commentary:
1:
A ratl consists of twelve uqiyyah, and one uqiyyah is equivalent to forty dirhams.
2:
From the phrase "it will suffice," it apparently seems that less than two ratl of water will not suffice for ablution (wudu). However, the hadith of Umm ‘Ammarah bint Ka‘b radi Allahu anha is contrary to this, in which it is mentioned that when the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam intended to perform ablution, a vessel was brought containing water equal to two-thirds of a mudd.
3:
It is on the pattern of tannur (oven). What is meant by it is a mudd, and according to one opinion, a sa‘ is intended, but the first opinion is more correct.
4:
The hadiths reported regarding the amount of water for ritual bath (ghusl) and ablution (wudu) are varied; all of them should be understood as referring to different circumstances.
5:
It is a measure that holds one ratl and one-third ratl of water.
6:
Sa‘ is also a measure, which holds four mudd of water.
Note:
(Sharik al-Qadi is weak in memorization in the chain, and his narration is also contrary to the narration of trustworthy narrators. In the chain of the Shaykhayn, "Sharik" is not present. However, the original hadith is authentic, whose documentation is as follows: It is narrated through the way of Ibn Jubayr: ((The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to perform ablution with a makuk and take a ritual bath with five makuk)),
