Commentary:
(1)
There is a difference of opinion regarding the authenticity and weakness of this narration.
According to our esteemed researcher Shaykh Ali Zai and another well-known scholar of Sunan Ibn Majah, Dr. Bashar Awwad, it is weak, while according to Ahmad Shakir Misri and Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah, it is authentic. (Sunan Ibn Majah, researched by Dr. Bashar Awwad)

(2)
Along with the above-mentioned supplication, one should also say "Bismillah," or recite the supplication after first saying "Bismillah."

(3)
The jinn are hidden from our sight.
To protect ourselves from their evil, we cannot adopt the same methods that we use to protect ourselves from the evil of wicked humans. Therefore, Allah Ta'ala has given us these spiritual means for protection from their mischief.
We should certainly benefit from them.

(4)
By saying "Bismillah," the jinn cannot see a person's private parts.
Just as it is necessary to enter a secluded place to avoid the gaze of humans, similarly, to avoid the gaze of the jinn, saying "Bismillah" is also necessary.
