English Commentary:

That is:
In all the units (rak‘ahs) of the Tahajjud prayer, he kept reciting only this one verse repeatedly.
And that noble verse was:
﴿إِن تُعَذِّبْهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ عِبَادُكَ وَإِن تَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ فَإِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ﴾ [سورة المائدة:
] (Narrated by al-Nasa’i and Ibn Majah),
“O Noble Lord! If You punish them (the believing people of my Ummah, the Muslims), then they are Your servants,
(even when giving punishment, have mercy upon them), and if You forgive them, then surely You are the Most Mighty, the Most Wise.”
