حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُوسَى، وَمَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ، وَغَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ، سَمِعَ جَدَّهُ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " رَحِمَ اللَّهُ امْرَأً صَلَّى قَبْلَ الْعَصْرِ أَرْبَعًا " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ حَسَنٌ .
´Ibn Umar narrated that :` The Prophet (S) said: "May Allah have mercy upon a man who prays four before Al-Asr."

These four rak‘ahs before the ‘Asr prayer are not among the regular Sunnah (Sunan Rawatib/Sunan Mu’akkadah),
rather, they are among the non-emphasized Sunnah (Sunan Ghair Mu’akkadah).
However, the fact that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam supplicated for mercy for the one who performs them demonstrates their significance.
These four rak‘ahs before the ‘Asr prayer are not among the regular Sunnah (Sunan Rawatib/Sunan Mu’akkadah),

These four rak‘ahs before the ‘Asr prayer are not from the regular Sunnah prayers (Sunan Rawatib, i.e., emphasized Sunnahs), but they possess great virtue. The supplicatory words of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), "Rahimahullah imra’an" (May Allah have mercy on a person), for the one who is diligent in these four rak‘ahs, indicate the immense virtue of these rak‘ahs—that is, whoever performs these four rak‘ahs, may Allah’s mercy be upon him.
