Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahman Freywai
1:
That is:
No regular Sunnah or supererogatory (nafl) prayer is established in this interval.
However, if someone comes to the mosque after having performed the Sunnah prayers of Fajr at home,
and there is still time before the congregation (jama‘ah) begins, then he may perform two units (rak‘ahs) as Tahiyyat al-Masjid (greeting the mosque),
in fact, he should perform them.

1278. Commentary:
According to Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah, this narration is authentic. From this, it is understood that after the appearance of dawn, only the two rak‘ahs of Sunnah should be performed before the obligatory (fard) prayer. However, if it is difficult to perform the Witr of the night during the day, then it is permissible to offer them at that time, just as is the case with prayers that have a specific cause (salat with a sabab).

Benefits and Issues:

Praying lightly does not mean that bowing (ruku) and prostration (sujud) should not be performed with calmness and composure. Rather, what is meant is a reduction in the number of tasbihat (words of glorification) and the amount of recitation.

The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to recite Surah "Qul ya ayyuhal kafirun" and Surah "Qul huwa Allahu ahad" in the Sunnah prayers of Fajr. And these are among the shortest surahs. (Sahih Muslim, Salat al-Musafirin, Chapter: The Recommendation of the Two Rak‘ahs of the Sunnah of Fajr..., Hadith: 726; Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 1150, 1148)
At times, he would also recite somewhat longer passages in these rak‘ahs. (Sahih Muslim, reference as above)

Lexical Explanation:
«لَا صَلَاةَ بَعْدَ الْفَجْرِ» «بَعْدَ الْفَجْرِ» refers to the appearance of dawn (tulu‘ al-fajr).
«إِلَّا سَجْدَتَيْنِ» Here, "sajdatayn" means "rak‘ahs" (units of prayer), and in one manuscript, "rak‘atayn" appears instead of "sajdatayn." By these two rak‘ahs, the two Sunnah rak‘ahs of Fajr are meant.

Benefit:
Our esteemed researcher has declared the aforementioned narrations to be weak in terms of their chain of transmission, and has written in the research of Abu Dawud that, regarding this issue, the narration of Sahih Muslim: [723] is sufficient. It is probably for this reason that Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah and other researchers have declared it authentic. Therefore, it is understood that after the appearance of dawn, only the two Sunnah rak‘ahs should be performed before the obligatory (fard) prayer.
