Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahman Freywai
Explanation:
1:
That is, one should adopt the means to reside in Madinah;
if he succeeds, then so be it, otherwise, this is not an obligatory act.
Also, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) will intercede for only that person who dies in Madinah and whose death occurs upon correct faith and creed,
not that he will intercede for a polytheist (mushrik) or an innovator (mubtadi‘) as well.
The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) has said: My supplication which has been reserved for the Hereafter will benefit only that person who did not associate any partner with Allah in any way. (This hadith mentions an important virtue of Madinah.)

Benefits and Issues:
➊
Dying in a particular place is not within a person’s control, but he can desire and strive
to spend the last part of his life in Madinah.
➋
Dying in Madinah is a source of honor because the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) will intercede on his behalf.
➌
This honor is for the person whose death occurs in a state of faith; otherwise, there will be no permission to intercede on behalf of a hypocrite or a polytheist, and any intercession made for them will not be accepted, just as the intercession made for Abdullah bin Ubayy was not accepted.
