حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاق بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حميد , قَالَا : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ : بَلَغَ صَفِيَّةَ أَنَّ حَفْصَةَ قَالَتْ : بِنْتُ يَهُودِيٍّ فَبَكَتْ ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهِيَ تَبْكِي ، فَقَالَ : " مَا يُبْكِيكِ ؟ " ، فَقَالَتْ : قَالَتْ لِي حَفْصَةُ : إِنِّي بِنْتُ يَهُودِيٍّ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّكِ لَابْنَةُ نَبِيٍّ , وَإِنَّ عَمَّكِ لَنَبِيٌّ , وَإِنَّكِ لَتَحْتَ نَبِيٍّ , فَفِيمَ تَفْخَرُ عَلَيْكِ ؟ ثُمَّ قَالَ : اتَّقِي اللَّهَ يَا حَفْصَةُ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ .
´Narrated Anas:` said: "It reached Safiyyah that Hafsah said: 'The daughter of a Jew' so she wept. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) entered upon her while she was crying, so he said: 'What makes you cry?' She said: 'Hafsah said to me that I am the daughter of a Jew.' So the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'And you are the daughter of a Prophet, and your uncle is a Prophet, and you are married to a Prophet, so what is she boasting to you about?' Then he said: 'Fear Allah, O Hafsah.'"

That is, Safiyyah was from the descendants of Musa (alayhis salam), and her brother Harun was also a prophet. Thus, both her father and uncle were prophets. Similarly, Hafsah was also from the descendants of a prophet (Isma'il alayhis salam), and Isma'il's brother Ishaq (the uncle) was also a prophet. And she was also in the marriage of a prophet. In this respect, both were equal. The purpose was only to caution her (radi Allahu anha) against such boasting.
