Commentary:
From such narrations, an argument is made for the condemnation of those Companions and Followers (Sahabah and Tabi‘in) with whom there was, allegedly or actually, a disagreement involving Ali radi Allahu anhu and Hasan and Husayn radi Allahu anhuma. However, firstly, this narration itself is weak.
Secondly, if one reflects, it actually condemns those people who claimed love for Ali radi Allahu anhu or Husayn radi Allahu anhu and professed obedience and support for them, but then betrayed them and caused them to be martyred.
The martyrdom of Ali radi Allahu anhu occurred at the hands of a Khariji, and the Khawarij were initially part of Ali radi Allahu anhu’s party, but later became his opponents.
Similarly, those who invited Husayn radi Allahu anhu to Kufa and then martyred him were the very same people who claimed to love him.
Hasan radi Allahu anhu made peace with Mu‘awiyah radi Allahu anhu.
In light of this narration, Mu‘awiyah radi Allahu anhu is excluded from the ranks of the opponents, therefore there remains no justification for criticizing him.
