´Narrated Abu Hurairah:` "We camped with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) at a place, and the people began passing by. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would say: 'Who is this, O Abu Hurairah?' So I would say: 'So-and-so.' So he would say: 'What an excellent slave of Allah this is.' And he would say: 'Who is this?' So I would say: 'So-and-so.' So he would say: 'What a bad slave of Allah this is.' Until Khalid bin Al-Walid passed, so he said: 'Who is this?' So I said: 'This is Khalid bin Al-Walid.' He said: 'What an excellent slave of Allah is Khalid bin Al-Walid, a sword from among the swords of Allah.'"
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahman Freywai
Explanation:
1:
The people regarding whom the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) uttered this statement were perhaps hypocrites (munafiqun), otherwise, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) could not have said such a thing about any Companion (sahabi).
2:
The statement of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) concerning Khalid ibn al-Walid (radi Allahu anhu) was proven true during the caliphate of Umar (radi Allahu anhu). Allah supported the religion through Khalid ibn al-Walid (radi Allahu anhu) in such a way that numerous victories were achieved at his hands. Khalid ibn al-Walid (radi Allahu anhu) was, in reality, such a sword of this ummah that Allah unsheathed against the superiority of the disbelievers (kuffar). And Khalid ibn al-Walid (radi Allahu anhu) is the only general who, throughout his life, never suffered defeat in any battle.
