´Narrated Hudhaifah:` that they said: "O Messenger of Allah, if you were to appoint someone as a successor." He said: "If I were to appoint a successor over you, and you were to disobey him, you would be punished. But whatever Hudhaifah narrates to you, then believe him, and whatever 'Abdullah teaches you to recite, then recite it."

Explanation:
1:
This hadith is weak in its chain due to Sharik and Abu al-Yaqzan.
However, regarding the bequest of Ibn Mas'ud radi Allahu anhu about the caliphate, an authentic hadith (No. 3818) has already been mentioned.
The summary of that hadith is that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did not explicitly name his successor,
but he did indicate towards Hudhayfah radi Allahu anhu, that whatever Hudhayfah says,
that is my statement.
Abu Hudhayfah later clarified regarding Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu.
(Also see hadith No. 2/38)
Note:
(In the chain, both Abu al-Yaqzan and Sharik al-Qadi are weak narrators.
Abu al-Yaqzan is also a Shi'i.)
