Hadith 3739

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا صَالِحُ بْنُ مُوسَى الطُّلَحِيُّ مِنْ وَلَدِ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ الصَّلْتِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ، قَالَ : قَالَ جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " مَنْ سَرَّهُ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَى شَهِيدٍ يَمْشِي عَلَى وَجْهِ الْأَرْضِ فَلْيَنْظُرْ إِلَى طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا غَرِيبٌ ، لَا نَعْرِفُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ حَدِيثِ الصَّلْتِ ، وَقَدْ تَكَلَّمَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ فِي الصَّلْتِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، وَفِي صَالِحِ بْنِ مُوسَى مِنْ قِبَلِ حِفْظِهِمَا .
´Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah:` that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever would be pleased to look at a martyr walking upon the face of the earth, then let him look at Talhah bin 'Ubaidullah."

Explanation:
1:
This was one of the miracles of the Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). Accordingly, Talhah (radi Allahu anhu) was martyred in the incident of Jamal in accordance with this prophetic miracle.

Commentary:
(1)
There is a difference of opinion regarding the authenticity of this hadith.
Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah has declared it authentic. See: (al-Sahihah, no. 126)
In this, there is the glad tidings of the martyrdom of Talhah radi Allahu anhu, which is a tremendous felicity.

(2)
His martyrdom occurred on the occasion of the Battle of Jamal.
From this, it is understood that the Companions radi Allahu anhum who were martyred in the mutual conflicts were not criminals in the sight of Allah; otherwise, they would not have been given the glad tidings of martyrdom.
