´Narrated Anas bin Malik:` that when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ordered the pledge of Ridwan, 'Uthman bin 'Affan was the messenger of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) to the people of Makkah. He said: "So the people gave the pledge." He said: "So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Indeed 'Uthman is busy with the affair of Allah and the affair of His Messenger' then he (ﷺ) put one of his hands on the other. The hand of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on behalf of 'Uthman, was better than their own hands for themselves.

Explanation:
1:
The Pledge of Ridwan (Bay‘at al-Ridwan) is the pledge that was taken under a tree in the year of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah.
This pledge was taken because a rumor had spread that the disbelievers of Makkah had killed ‘Uthman.
Upon this, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) took a pledge from the people that they would avenge the blood of ‘Uthman.
Thus, a pledge was taken from everyone that they would fight the disbelievers of Makkah over this matter.
All the people remained firm upon this covenant.

Note:
(In the chain of narration, Hukm ibn ‘Abd al-Malik is a weak narrator.)
