Shaykh Maulana Abdul Aziz Alvi
Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: It was the wish of Muawiyah radi Allahu anhu that his death would also occur at the age of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and the two Shaykhs (Abu Bakr and Umar), but this desire of his was not fulfilled. He passed away at an age exceeding seventy-eight (78) years.
The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was born in the Year of the Elephant, on a Monday, in the morning. According to the research of the expert in astronomy and mathematics, the scholar of celestial sciences, Mahmood Pasha, this event took place on the 9th of Rabi' al-Awwal, which corresponded to April 20 or 21, 571 CE. His passing occurred at approximately noon, also on a Monday, in the year 11 AH. According to the well-known and famous opinion, at that time it was the 12th of Rabi' al-Awwal, 632 CE. However, according to the statement of Ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhuma, it was the 2nd of Rabi' al-Awwal. Allamah Suyuti and Allamah Shibli also gave preference to the 1st or 2nd, and this is the correct opinion.
Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu passed away on Tuesday, the 17th of Jumada al-Ula, 13 AH, between Maghrib and Isha. The duration of his caliphate was 3 years, 3 months, and 8 days. As for Umar radi Allahu anhu, a fatal attack was made on him on Wednesday, the 26th of Dhu al-Hijjah, 23 AH, and he was buried on Saturday, the 1st of Muharram. The duration of his caliphate was ten years, six months, and four days.
