Hadith 3651

حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمَّارٌ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " تُوُفِّيَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ خَمْسٍ وَسِتِّينَ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَسَنُ الْإِسْنَادِ صَحِيحٌ .
´Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:` "The Prophet (ﷺ) died when he was sixty-five years old."

This statement is rare;
the preserved (authentic) position is that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was sixty-three years old, as mentioned in the previous hadith.
It is possible that someone counted both the year of birth and the year of death as complete years,
and thus reported the age as sixty-five?
