Hadith 3612

´Narrated Abu Hurairah:` that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Ask Allah to grant me Al-Wasilah." They said: "O Messenger of Allah! And what is Al-Wasilah?" He said: "The highest level of Paradise. No one will attain it except for one man, and I hope that I am him."

Explanation:
1:
The "wasilah" (means of nearness) mentioned in this hadith refers to the same wasilah for which a member of the ummah supplicates for the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) after every call to prayer (adhan), as in the supplication: (Allahumma aati Muhammadan al-wasilata) (O Allah! Grant Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) the wasilah). In this hadith, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) himself instructed the ummah to seek wasilah for him, and he himself included this request in the supplication after the adhan. Outside of the adhan as well, a person may make this supplication; by making this supplication, the person himself will receive the reward of supplication. As for the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), he is indeed the one to whom the wasilah will be granted. That is why the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said that he hopes to be the one honored with it, and indeed, it will be him (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). This hadith clearly demonstrates the virtue of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
