وَبِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، وَبِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَنْ قَالَ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ حُطَّتْ خَطَايَاهُ ، وَإِنْ كَانَتْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ زَبَدِ الْبَحْرِ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ .
'With this same chain,' it is narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him), he said: "Whoever says: «سبحان الله وبحمده» one hundred times, his sins will be erased, even if they are more than the foam of the sea." © Imam Tirmidhi says: This hadith is Hasan Sahih.
´Abu Hurairah narrates that:` The Mesenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever says: ‘There is none worthy of worship except Allah, Alone, without partner, to Him belongs all that exists and to Him belongs the praise, He gives life and causes death, and He is Powerful over all things, (Lā ilāha illallāh, waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamdu, yuḥyī wa yumītu, wa huwa `alā kulli shay’in qadīr)’ a hundred times in a day, it will be for him the equivalent of freeing ten slaves, and there shall be written for him a hundred good deeds, and a hundred bad deeds shall be wiped out for him, and it will be a protection for him from Shaitan on that day, until he reaches the evening. And none has brought better than it, except for one who has done more than that.” And with this chain, from the Prophet (ﷺ), that he said: “Whoever says: ‘Glory is to Allah, and with His Praise (Subḥān Allāh, wa biḥamdih)’ a hundred times, his sins are forgiven, even if they were more than the foam of the sea.”

➊ The remembrance of Allah is the best means of attaining reward.
➋ Some forms of remembrance (adhkar) are a greater cause of reward than monetary charity and almsgiving.
➌ The prescribed (masnun) remembrance is a means of protection from Shaytan.
➍ There are so many blessings and benefits present in the prescribed (masnun) adhkar that there is no need to invent additional forms of remembrance alongside them. Moreover, self-invented forms of remembrance are not a cause of reward either.

It is narrated in Muslim from Abu Dharr that he asked the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) about the most beloved words to Allah, so he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) replied: "The most beloved words to Allah are: Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi," meaning, the most beloved words to Allah are "Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi."

Hadith Commentary:

Declaring Allah, the Exalted, free from every deficiency that does not befit His majesty is called tasbih (glorification). By this, the negation of any partner, spouse, or offspring for Him is automatically entailed. At times, tasbih refers to the remembrance (dhikr) of Allah, and also to voluntary prayer (salat nafl). The reason for the name "Salat al-Tasbih" is also this, that it contains abundant tasbihat (glorifications). (Fath al-Bari: 11/247)

It should be clear that by this, those sins are forgiven which pertain to the rights of Allah (huquq Allah), because the rights of the servants (huquq al-‘ibad) will not be forgiven without the consent of the one entitled.

This practice (wazifah) can be recited at any time of the day, whether one completes the count of one hundred in a single sitting or recites it one hundred times in separate intervals; its virtue is as stated in the hadith. However, it is better to say it one hundred times at the beginning of the day in a single sitting.
In a narration from Samurah ibn Jundub radi Allahu anhu, it is reported that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
“The most excellent and beloved four words to Allah are: Subhan Allah, wal-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar. Whichever of them you begin with, it will not harm you.” (Sahih Muslim, al-Adab, Hadith: 5601 (2137))
In another hadith it is stated:
“Reciting Subhan Allah, wal-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar is more beloved to me than the whole universe being given to me.” (Sahih Muslim, al-Dhikr wa’l-Du‘a, Hadith: 6847 (2695))
It is narrated from Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas radi Allahu anhu that he said:
“We were once in the presence of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and he said: ‘Is any one of you incapable of earning one thousand good deeds every day?’ One of those present said: ‘How can any one of us earn one thousand good deeds?’ He sallallahu alayhi wa sallam replied: ‘If he says Subhan Allah one hundred times, one thousand good deeds are written for him and one thousand sins are forgiven for him.’” (Sahih Muslim, al-Dhikr wa’l-Du‘a, Hadith: 6852 (2698))

1355. Commentary:
➊ The aforementioned narration has been declared weak in its chain by the verifier of this book, whereas other scholars have deemed it authentic. Furthermore, the commentator of Sunan an-Nasa’i has discussed it in detail and declared it authentic, and from his discussion, it appears that the correct view is that this narration is authentic and a valid proof. ➋ This is the grace of the Noble Lord that He bestows a tremendous reward for a small deed. There is also the possibility that this great glad tidings is for the person who is persistent in this action, and only a fortunate believer can maintain such persistence. O Allah! Make us among them.
➌ The foam of the sea is a metaphor for the limitless. According to our knowledge, the foam of the sea is indeed limitless. It can also be referred to as abundance. And Allah knows best.
