حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " خَلَّتَانِ لَا يُحْصِيهِمَا رَجُلٌ مُسْلِمٌ إِلَّا دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ أَلَا وَهُمَا يَسِيرٌ ، وَمَنْ يَعْمَلُ بِهِمَا قَلِيلٌ : يُسَبِّحُ اللَّهَ فِي دُبُرِ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ عَشْرًا ، وَيَحْمَدُهُ عَشْرًا ، وَيُكَبِّرُهُ عَشْرًا " ، قَالَ : فَأَنَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَعْقِدُهَا بِيَدِهِ ، قَالَ : " فَتِلْكَ خَمْسُونَ وَمِائَةٌ بِاللِّسَانِ وَأَلْفٌ وَخَمْسُ مِائَةٍ فِي الْمِيزَانِ ، وَإِذَا أَخَذْتَ مَضْجَعَكَ تُسَبِّحُهُ وَتُكَبِّرُهُ وَتَحْمَدُهُ مِائَةً ، فَتِلْكَ مِائَةٌ بِاللِّسَانِ وَأَلْفٌ فِي الْمِيزَانِ ، فَأَيُّكُمْ يَعْمَلُ فِي الْيَوْمِ وَاللَّيْلَةِ أَلْفَيْنِ وَخَمْسَ مِائَةِ سَيِّئَةٍ " ، قَالُوا : فَكَيْفَ لَا يُحْصِيهَا ؟ قَالَ : " يَأْتِي أَحَدَكُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ وَهُوَ فِي صَلَاتِهِ ، فَيَقُولُ : اذْكُرْ كَذَا اذْكُرْ كَذَا حَتَّى يَنْفَتِلَ ، فَلَعَلَّهُ لَا أَنْ يَفْعَلُ ، وَيَأْتِيهِ وَهُوَ فِي مَضْجَعِهِ فَلَا يَزَالُ يُنَوِّمُهُ حَتَّى يَنَامَ " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ، وَقَدْ رَوَى شُعْبَةُ ، وَالثَّوْرِيُّ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ ، وَرَوَى الْأَعْمَشُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ مُخْتَصَرًا ، وَفِي الْبَابِ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ، وَأَنَسٍ ، وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ .
´Abdullah bin `Amr [may Allah be pleased with both of them] said:` “The Messenger of Allah said: ‘There are two characteristics over which a Muslim man does not guard, except that he enters Paradise. And indeed, they are easy, and those who act upon them are few: He glorifies Allah at the end of every prayer ten times (saying Subḥān Allāh) and praises Him ten times saying (Al-Ḥamdulillāh) and extols His greatness ten times (saying Allāhu Akbar).’”He said: “And I have seen the Messenger of Allah counting them with his hand. He said: ‘So this is one hundred and fifty with the tongue, and one thousand and five hundred on the Scale. When you go to bed, you glorify Him, extol His greatness, and praise Him a hundred times, so this is one hundred with the tongue and one thousand on the Scale. Which of you perform two thousand and five hundred evil deeds in a single day and night?’ They said: ‘How could we not guard over them?’ He said: ‘Shaitan comes to one of you when he is in his Salat and says: “Remember such and such, remember such and such” until he turns perhaps he will not do it. And he comes to him and he is lying down and makes him sleepy until he falls asleep.’”

Allah Ta'ala loves His servant to such an extent that He rewards abundant recompense for a small deed. But alas! The servant is seen as incapable of performing even such a small deed. Secondly, instead of counting the numbers of dhikr on beads or a rosary, one should count on the fingers of the hands; this is the correct and Sunnah method.

1349. Commentary:
➊ The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam spoke the truth. Such an easy deed, which can be completed in just a few minutes, is acted upon by only a rare few due to the efforts of Shaytan. «وَقَلِيلٌ مِنْ عِبَادِيَ الشَّكُورُ» [سبا : 13 : 34]
➋ In this blessed hadith, the virtue of these remembrances (adhkar) and the virtue of this ummah have been mentioned, that for such a small deed there is such a great reward.
➌ In this, encouragement has been given to be consistent in these remembrances (adhkar), to accumulate as many good deeds as possible, and to abandon laziness.
➍ From this blessed hadith, it is also understood that counting tasbih (glorifications) on the fingers of the hands is recommended (mustahabb).
➎ Shaytan is constantly engaged in preventing a person from doing good deeds; he distracts a person from the remembrance of Allah and then employs his tricks against him. Whoever follows him becomes among the losers.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ One should strive regarding a good deed that it is performed consistently. Because a small deed done regularly becomes, in total, very great. But a large deed done only occasionally remains less than that.
➋ Shaytan uses every tactic to prevent one from doing good deeds. A servant should remain alert to his mischiefs so that he does not succeed in deceiving him.
➌ After the obligatory prayers, saying (Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar) ten times each is correct, and saying them thirty-three times each is also correct, as will be mentioned in the next hadith.
➍ The mention of the reward for a good deed being multiplied tenfold is also found in the Noble Qur’an. Allah says:
“Whoever brings a good deed, he will have ten times its like.” (Al-An’am: 160)
➎ One should not disregard a good deed that can be performed easily, considering it insignificant. Some deeds that appear minor are, in reality, a cause of great reward and recompense.
➏ Short supplications and remembrances (adhkar) established from the Sunnah are better than lengthy, non-Sunnah, and Urdu invocations.

Benefits and Issues:
Every good deed and virtue is attributed to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.
And a person can act upon it only through His enabling grace (tawfiq).
And in every evil and wickedness, there is the involvement of Shaytan.
And being deprived of virtue is a great defect and calamity.
Therefore, one should continue to supplicate,
that Allah, the Exalted, always grants us the ability to do good deeds.
For example, one should make this supplication:
(Rabb a‘inni ‘ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni ‘ibadatika)
Every good deed and virtue is attributed to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.
