Explanation:
1:
O Allah! Knower of the unseen and the seen,
Knower of the present and the absent,
Creator of the heavens and the earth,
Owner of everything! I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except You,
I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self,
I seek refuge in You from the evil of Satan and from his call towards shirk (polytheism).

Benefits and Issues:

It is recommended (mustahabb) that a person recite this blessed supplication in the morning, evening, and at the time of going to sleep at night.

Even a great person like Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (radi Allahu anhu) is in need of acquiring knowledge of Allah’s remembrance (dhikr) in such ordinary acts from the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and his revelation.
How then can it be justified that some people, according to their own desires, have invented lengthy litanies and compilations of praise, salutations, and blessings, thereby depriving themselves and their followers of the virtue and reward of following the Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)?
Moreover, the corruption of creed and action that results from this is even greater.
Rather, a person of faith should always be eager to seek guidance from the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in every action.

No matter how high a person’s rank in knowledge and virtue, he needs to be all the more cautious to remain safe from the mischief of his own soul and the whisperings of Satan.
And this is not possible except by Allah’s grace.

In one narration, the last word of this supplication, “shirkihi,” is reported as “sharaki” as well, meaning both the letter “sheen” and “raa” have a fatha (zabar) on them. Thus, the meaning will be:
“I seek Your protection from the snares and traps of Satan.”
