´Narrated Abu Hurairah:` "One day, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) recited this Ayah: 'And if you turn away, He will replace you with other people; then they will not be like you (47:38).' They said: 'And who will replace us?' So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) patted the shoulder of Salman, then he said: 'This one and his people, this one and his people.'"

O people of Arabia! If you turn back (from faith and striving), then Allah will bring another people in your place,
they will not be like you (rather, they will be better than you) (: Muhammad: 38).
Note:
(There is an ambiguous narrator in the chain,
but due to corroboration from the following hadith, this hadith is authentic.)

Hadith Commentary:
The second narration is mentioned from several individuals without any doubt.
Qurtubi said: Whatever the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had foretold, it happened exactly as he said.
Many hadith scholars and Imam Malik were born in the land of Persia.
I say: Among these people are only Imam Bukhari, Imam Muslim, Imam Tirmidhi rahimahullah and others.
All these hadith Imams were from the land of Persia, and if the narration of "a man from among these" (rajul min ha'ulaa) is authentic, then by it is meant Imam Bukhari. The science of hadith with authentic, connected chains has remained until now due to the manly resolve of this very man. As for the Hanafis, who have taken this to refer to Imam Abu Hanifah rahimahullah, we have no disagreement regarding the virtue and greatness of Imam Abu Hanifah, but his origin was not from the land of Persia; rather, it was from Kabul, and Kabul is not included among the lands of Persia. Therefore, he cannot be the intended subject of this hadith.
Besides this, Imam Abu Hanifah rahimahullah spent his entire life engaged in jurisprudence (fiqh) and independent reasoning (ijtihad), and his attention towards the science of hadith was very little. For this reason, he is not counted among the hadith Imams, nor have the hadith Imams such as Imam Bukhari, Imam Muslim, and others narrated from him in their books. Rather, Muhammad ibn Nasr al-Marwazi, the hadith scholar, says that Imam Abu Hanifah's share in the science of hadith was very little, and Khatib said that Imam Abu Hanifah narrated only fifty marfu' (directly attributed to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) hadiths. However, the mujtahid Imams—Imam Malik, Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Ishaq ibn Rahwayh, Awza'i, Sufyan Thawri, and Abdullah ibn Mubarak rahimahullah—were such complete personalities that they were Imams in both jurisprudence (fiqh) and hadith at the same time. May Allah be pleased with all of them and grant them the highest ranks.

Explanation:
1:
And Allah has sent this Prophet among them for those other people as well who have not yet joined them (al-Jumu‘ah: 3).
2:
In the commentary of the verse from Surah "Muhammad" ﴿وَإِن تَتَوَلَّوْا يَسْتَبْدِلْ قَوْمًا غَيْرَكُمْ ﴾ (Muhammad: 38), the author has also brought this same hadith (no. 3260).
Hafiz Ibn Hajar says:
"It is entirely possible that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said this upon the revelation of both verses."

Explanation:
➊: Salman al-Farsi radi Allahu anhu was a non-Arab (from the land of Persia), and in this verse, it is towards such people that reference is made.
Countless hadith scholars (muhaddithin) and great Imams of Islam have arisen from among the non-Arabs (Ajam).

Explanation:
1:
Thurayya refers to seven stars which are situated higher than all other stars, and the meaning of the statement of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is that even if faith (iman)—or religion (din), or knowledge (ilm), as mentioned in other narrations, and the essential meaning of all is the same—were to ascend to Thurayya, then some people from the nation of Salman al-Farsi (radi Allahu anhu) would reach there and acquire it. This prophecy was fulfilled in such a way that hundreds of Islamic scholars (‘ulama’) emerged from among the people of Persia, and in the words of Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal: If by this are not meant the hadith scholars (muhaddithin), then I do not know who else could be meant—rahimahum Allah jami‘an (may Allah have mercy on them all).
