´Narrated 'Umar bin Abi Salamah - the step-son of the Prophet (ﷺ):` "When these Ayat were revealed to the Prophet (ﷺ): 'Allah only wishes to remove the Rijs from you, O members of the family, and to purify you with a thorough purification (33:33)' in the home of Umm Salamah, he called for Fatimah, Hasan, Husain, and wrapped him in the cloak, and 'Ali was behind him, so he wrapped him in the cloak, then he said: 'O Allah! These are the people of my house, so remove the Rijs from them, and purify them with a thorough purification.' So Umm Salamah said: 'And I, Prophet of Allah?' He said: 'You are in your place (meaning you are already a member of my household), and you are goodness.'"

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahman Freywai
Explanation:
1:
Allah Almighty desires only to remove all (kinds of) impurity from you, O people of the household (of the Prophet), and to purify you thoroughly (: al-Ahzab: 33).
2:
That is, in this verse, the term "Ahl al-Bayt" (people of the household) refers explicitly, as clarified by the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), to Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn (radi Allahu anhum). Although the noble wives (azwaj mutahharat) possess other virtues, they are not included within the meaning of this particular word in this verse.

Explanation:
1:
O Ahl al-Bayt (People of the Prophet’s Household)! Allah intends to remove from you the impurity (of disbelief and polytheism), and to purify you thoroughly. (: al-Ahzab: 33)
2:
From the context and reason for revelation of this verse, it becomes clearly evident that by ﴿اَهْلَ الْبَیْتِ﴾ (Ahl al-Bayt), the pure wives of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam are meant. Or, from this hadith, it is also established that in addition to the pure wives, Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn radi Allahu anhum are also included among the “Ahl al-Bayt.” There is no contradiction between the two.
