´Narrated 'Atiyyah:` Abu Sa'eed narrated: "On the Day of Badr, the Romans had a victory over the Persians. So the believers were pleased with that, then the following was revealed: 'Alif Lam Mim. The Romans have been defeated, up to His saying: 'the believers will rejoice - with the help of Allah... (30:1-5)'" He said: "So the believers were happy with the victory of the Romans over the Persians."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahman Freywai
Explanation:
1:
Because the Romans were People of the Book, and the Muslims were also People of the Book, therefore in their victory the Muslims saw their own success.

2:
The Romans have been defeated,
in the nearest land, and after their defeat, they will soon be victorious,
within a few years,
before and after, the command belongs only to Allah,
and on that day the believers will rejoice (al-Rum: 1–4)

Explanation:
1:
Alif Lam Meem,
The Romans have been defeated in the nearest land, and after their defeat, they will soon be victorious,
within a few years.
Before and after (this event), the command belongs only to Allah,
On that day, the Muslims will rejoice.

2:
This is because the Muslims were People of the Book (those of the Qur’an), and the Romans were also People of the Book (those of the Gospel),
while the Persians were disbelievers and polytheists, just as the people of Makkah were disbelievers and polytheists.
Their happiness was due to this slight affinity.
