‘This has been narrated by Abdur Rahman bin Mahdi and others from Sufyan, Sufyan from A‘mash, A‘mash from Muslim Batin, and Muslim from Sa‘id bin Jubair from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him); in this narration, there is no mention of narration from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). Similarly, several other narrators have narrated from Sufyan, Sufyan from A‘mash, and A‘mash from Muslim Batin, from Sa‘id bin Jubair in mursal form; in this, there is no mention of narration from Ibn Abbas.’
´Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:` "When the Prophet (ﷺ) was expelled from Makkah, Abu Bakr said: 'They have driven out their Prophet to their own doom.' So Allah, Most High, revealed: 'Permission (to fight) is given to those who are fought against, because they have been wronged; and surely, Allah is able to give them victory (22:39).' So Abu Bakr said: 'Then I knew that there would be fighting.'"
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahman Freywai
Explanation:
1:
Permission to fight has also been granted to those against whom war has been waged considering them oppressed (and weak); Allah is capable of helping them (Al-Hajj: 39)
Note 1: (In the chain of narration, Sufyan bin Waki’ is truthful (saduq) but a narrator whose hadith is dropped (saqit al-hadith))
Note 2: (This hadith is weak due to being mursal (sent, i.e., with a missing link in the chain))
