حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَلْيَرْكَعْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَجْلِسَ " قَالَ : وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ جَابِرٍ , وَأَبِي أُمَامَةَ , وَأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ , وَأَبِي ذَرٍّ , وَكَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : وَحَدِيثُ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ، وَقَدْ رَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَجْلَانَ وَغَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، نَحْوَ رِوَايَةِ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، وَرَوَى سُهَيْلُ بْنُ أَبِي صَالِحٍ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَيْرُ مَحْفُوظٍ ، وَالصَّحِيحُ حَدِيثُ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ ، وَالْعَمَلُ عَلَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ عِنْدَ أَصْحَابِنَا ، اسْتَحَبُّوا إِذَا دَخَلَ الرَّجُلُ الْمَسْجِدَ أَنْ لَا يَجْلِسَ حَتَّى يُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ عُذْرٌ ، قَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ : وَحَدِيثُ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ خَطَأٌ ، أَخْبَرَنِي بِذَلِكَ إِسْحَاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمَدِينِيِّ .
´Abu Qatadah narrated that :` Allah's Messenger said: "When one of you comes to the Masjid, then let him perform two Rak'ah before sitting."

1:
This is called Tahiyyat al-Masjid (the greeting of the mosque).
According to the majority, it is recommended (mustahabb), while according to the Shafi'is, it is obligatory (wajib).
The correct view is that it is highly emphasized, but it is not obligatory (fard).
2:
In the narration of Suhayl ibn Abi Salih, instead of "from Abu Qatadah," it is "from Jabir ibn Abdullah," and this is incorrect because other students of Amir ibn Abdullah have contradicted Suhayl.
