Hadith 3110

´Narrated Abu Musa:` that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Indeed Allah Blessed and Most High gives respite (Yumli)" and perhaps he said: "(Yumhil)" respite to the wrong-doer until, when He seizes him, and he cannot escape." Then he recited the Ayah: Such is the punishment of your Lord when He seizes the towns while they are doing wrong (11:102).
'Abu Musa narrated from' the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the same manner, and in it, the word «یُملی» was said without any doubt.

Hadith Commentary:
1.
From this hadith and the aforementioned verse, we learn of the way (sunnah) of Allah, Exalted is He, that He certainly holds the people of oppression accountable.
There may be a delay in this matter, but there is never neglect.
Therefore, those who practice oppression should always fear their end, and others should also refrain from supporting the people of oppression, as Allah, the Exalted, has stated:
"And do not incline towards those who do wrong, lest the Fire should touch you. And you will have no protectors other than Allah, nor shall you be helped." ( Hud: 11:113)
2.
This verse, in its generality, includes every kind of oppressor, whether they are polytheists (mushrik) or openly sinful and immoral (fasiq wa fajir); in any case, the outcome of oppression is never good.
A wise person should abstain from it.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ If a criminal does not receive immediate punishment from Allah, it does not mean that he has been let off; rather, Allah grants respite until a specific time. Then He seizes suddenly.

➋ Granting respite to criminals is an expression of Allah’s attribute of mercy, so that they may take advantage of this respite, accept guidance, and thus, by being saved from punishment, become deserving of reward.

➌ No prophet or saint can save anyone from Allah’s punishment.
