Shaykh Dr. Abdur Rahman Freywai
Explanation:
1:
Say (to them), "Come, I will recite to you what your Lord has made unlawful for you: (firstly) that you do not associate anything with Him, and (secondly) that you show kindness to parents," meaning, do not disobey your parents (in what is right). (Thirdly), do not kill your children for fear of poverty; We provide sustenance for you and for them. And do not go near shameful deeds (fahisha), whether they are openly apparent or hidden (that is, even if they are not outwardly visible, but their consequence behind the scenes is evil and immorality). And do not kill the soul which Allah has made sacred and forbidden, except by right (that is, unless the person has made himself deserving of it, for example, in retribution [qisas], then he may be killed). This is Allah’s commandment to you, so that you may use reason and understanding. And do not go near the property of the orphan, except in the best manner (that is, one may not make undue use of his property; only the guardian is permitted to deal with it in a better and lawful way, and that too only until the orphan reaches maturity. When he reaches adulthood, his property should be handed over to him). And give full measure and weight with justice; We do not burden any soul beyond its capacity. And when you speak, speak justly, even if it concerns a close relative. And fulfill the covenant of Allah (vows and oaths, provided they are not for unlawful matters). These things have been made clear to you so that you may take heed. This is My straight path, so follow it, and do not follow other (crooked) paths, lest they divert you from Allah’s straight path. This is what Allah has enjoined upon you so that you may become righteous (al-An‘am: 151 to 153).
