Hadith 3048

With this chain, Muhammad bin Muslim narrated from Ali bin Badhimah, Ali bin Badhimah from Abu Ubaidah, and Abu Ubaidah from Abdullah, from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), in the same manner 2 .
´Narrated Abu 'Ubaidah:` "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'When the Children of Isra'il fell into decline, a man among them would see his brother committing a sin, and prohibit them from it. The next day, what he saw him doing would not prevent him from eating with him, drinking with him, and associating with him. So Allah pitted their hearts against each other, and He revealed about them in the Qur'an, He said: Those among the Children of Isra'il who disbelieved were cursed by the tongue of Dawud and 'Eisa, son of Mariam. That was because they disobeyed and were ever transgressing.' And he recited until he reached: 'And had they believed in Allah, and in the Prophet, and in what has been revealed to him, never would they have taken them as friends; but many of them are rebellious (5:78-81).' He said: "And Allah's Prophet (ﷺ) was reclining, so he sat up and said: 'No! Not until you take the hand of the wrong-doer and incline him toward the truth.'"

Explanation & Benefits

Explanation:
1:
“Those among the Children of Israel who disbelieved were cursed by the tongue of Dawud (David) and ‘Isa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), alayhim as-salam. This was because they would disobey and transgress beyond bounds. Whatever evil a group among them committed, they would not prevent one another from it. Indeed, they used to do very evil deeds. You see many of them taking the disbelievers as allies; they have adopted a very evil way for themselves, as a result of which Allah is extremely angry with them, and they will abide forever in punishment in the Hereafter. And if these people had believed in Allah, and in this Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and in what was sent down to him, they would not have taken the disbelievers as allies, but most of them are defiantly disobedient and wicked.” (Al-Ma’idah: 78)

Explanation:
1:
That is, there remained no one among them who was good or bad; all became equally deserving of punishment.

Benefits and Issues:
This narration is weak in its chain of transmission, but the reality is that if one does not maintain enmity for the sake of Allah (lillah fi Allah) with the sinners, oppressors, and people of innovation, and does not cut off relations with them, but instead freely associates with them to the extent that even the sense of religious honor (ghayrah) is lost, then, in my opinion, the punishment for this should be extremely severe right here, as is evident from the history of Bani Isra'il and the current state of the Muslim Ummah.
