Hadith 3016

حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَبَّانُ بْنُ هِلَالٍ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي الْخَلِيلِ، عَنْ أَبِي عَلْقَمَةَ الْهَاشِمِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، قَالَ : " لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ أَوْطَاسٍ أَصَبْنَا نِسَاءً لَهُنَّ أَزْوَاجٌ فِي الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَكَرِهَهُنَّ رِجَالٌ مِنْهُمْ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ : وَالْمُحْصَنَاتُ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ إِلا مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ سورة النساء آية 24 " ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ .
´Narrated Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri:` "On the Day of Awtas, we captured some women who had husbands among the idolaters. So some of the men disliked that, so Allah, Most High, revealed: And women already married, except those whom your right hands possess... (4:24)"

Brief Explanation
1؎: In a military expedition, even married women who come into possession as spoils of war (mal-e-ghanīmat) are lawful for their owners; it is only necessary to wait for one menstrual cycle (istibrā’ al-raḥim) for the purpose of ensuring the womb is clear.

2؎: “And (forbidden to you are) married women, except those whom your right hands possess.” (1)

Explanation:
1:
Whereas, in battle, even married women who come into possession as war booty are lawful for their owners; it is only required to wait for one menstrual cycle (istibra’ al-rahm) to ensure the womb is clear.
