Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) met me and said: "Jabir! What is the matter, I see you broken-hearted?" I said: O Messenger of Allah! My father was martyred, the tragedy of his killing occurred in the Battle of Uhud, and he left behind children and debt. He said: "Shall I not give you glad tidings of what Allah said to your father at the time of meeting him?" He said: Why not, O Messenger of Allah! He said: "Allah has never spoken to anyone without a veil (but) He revived your father, then spoke to him face to face (without a veil), and said: O My servant! Wish and desire from Me whatever you want, I will give you. He said: O Lord! Give me life again so that I may be martyred again in Your path. The Lord, Mighty and Majestic, said: My decision has already been made «أنهم إليها لا يرجعون» that people will not be sent back to the world again." The narrator says: The verse «ولا تحسبن الذين قتلوا في سبيل الله أمواتا» 1 was revealed regarding this matter.

Benefits and Issues:
➊
The bereaved family members of the deceased should be comforted and consoled, and such words should be spoken to them that lighten their grief.
➋
After death, Allah, the Exalted, speaks to His righteous servants.
➌
The vision of Allah is possible in Paradise, and the people of Paradise will receive this blessing at intervals, more or less, according to their respective ranks.
➍
Those who have passed away or martyrs cannot return to the world; therefore, there is no truth in such tales that such-and-such Companion, martyr, or saint met someone after their death and guided them in a certain matter.
➎
In this incident, there is glad tidings of Abdullah bin Haram radi Allahu anhu being among the people of Paradise and possessing lofty ranks.

Commentary:
(1)
The Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to participate in the sorrows and joys of his noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum). In the same way, every leader and chief should be mindful of the happiness and sorrow of his companions and subordinates, and should treat them with affection.
(2)
The bereaved family members of the deceased should be consoled in such a manner that their grief is alleviated. One should avoid adopting such an approach or saying such things that would increase their sorrow or cause them distress.
(3)
In this hadith, there is affirmation of the attribute of Speech (kalam) for Allah, the Exalted.
(4)
After death, a person enters the realm of the Hereafter; therefore, there he may be honored with conversing with Allah, the Exalted, and beholding Him.
(5)
The greatness of the martyrs (shuhada) is manifested from this hadith.
(6)
The status of Abdullah bin Haram (radi Allahu anhu) is immense, for Allah, the Exalted, Himself inquired about his wish.
(7)
The reward of martyrdom (shahada) is so great that the martyr desires to return to the world to attain it again. No other inhabitant of Paradise, besides the martyr, wishes to return to the world.
(8)
The connection of the deceased with the world is severed, and they cannot return to the world; this also refutes the “doctrine of transmigration of souls” (aqidah tanasukh arwah).
(9)
The life of the martyrs (shuhada) is also a barzakh (intermediate) life like that of other people, not a worldly one. In this life, they enjoy the blessings of Paradise, as mentioned in the hadith that the souls of the martyrs, in the form of green birds, eat and drink in Paradise and benefit from its blessings. (Sahih Muslim, al-Imarah, Chapter: Clarification that the souls of the martyrs are in Paradise, Hadith: 1887)
