حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأُمَوِيُّ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُقَطِّعُ قِرَاءَتَهُ ، يَقُولُ : الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ سورة الفاتحة آية 2 ثُمَّ يَقِفُ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ سورة الفاتحة آية 3 ثُمَّ يَقِفُ ، وَكَانَ يَقْرَؤُهَا مَالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ سورة الفاتحة آية 4 " ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ ، وَبِهِ يَقْرَأُ أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ وَيَخْتَارُهُ ، وَهَكَذَا رَوَى يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأُمَوِيُّ ، وَغَيْرُهُ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، وَلَيْسَ إِسْنَادُهُ بِمُتَّصِلٍ ، لِأَنَّ اللَّيْثَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ رَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ مَمْلَكٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلمَةَ ، أَنَّهَا وَصَفَتْ قِرَاءَةَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَرْفًا حَرْفًا ، وَحَدِيثُ اللَّيْثِ أَصَحُّ ، وَلَيْسَ فِي حَدِيثِ اللَّيْثِ وَكَانَ يَقْرَأُ مَالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ سورة الفاتحة آية 4 .
´Narrated Ibn Abi Mulaikah:` that Umm Salamah said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would separate recitation reciting: 'Al-Hamdulillahi Rabbil-'Alamin' then he would stop. 'Ar-Rahmanir-Rahim' then he would stop. And he would recite it: 'Maliki Yawmid-Din.'"

1023. Commentary: The recitation should be clear and pure. Every single word should be understandable separately. One should pause at every verse and sentence so that, while reading and listening, attention is given to the meanings and concepts. The meanings should be imprinted upon the heart, have an effect on the heart, and admonition should be obtained, which is the real purpose of the Qur'an. Otherwise, mere tajwid (correct pronunciation) will be of no benefit.
