´Narrated Muhammad bin Jubair bin Mut'im:` from his father that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "I have some names: I am Muhammad, I am Ahmad, I am Al-Mahi, the one by whom Allah wipes out disbelief, I am Al-Hasir, the one whom the people are gathered at his feet, and I am Al-'Aqib, the one after whom there is no Prophet."

Hadith Commentary:
1.
The word "Ahmad" has two meanings:
➊
One who praises his Lord exceedingly.
➋
The one who is most praised among the servants.
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is the embodiment of both these meanings, and both these qualities are found in his noble person. However, this name is not present in the current Torah and Gospel because they have been altered. Despite this alteration, such clear attributes of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) are still mentioned in them, by which he can be recognized.
2.
Among the People of the Book, some fair-minded individuals accepted faith based on these very attributes, as is well-known in the incident of Abdullah ibn Salam (radi Allahu anhu). The King of Abyssinia, Najashi (radi Allahu anhu), also affirmed these attributes.
And Allah knows best.

Hadith Commentary:
From this hadith, it becomes as clear as daylight that anyone who claims prophethood after you is a liar and a deceiver (dajjal).

Hadith Commentary:
➊
The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has many names.
In this hadith, only five names have been mentioned, because these names are found in the earlier scriptures and the previous communities were familiar with them.
Furthermore, the meaning of the number is not restrictive, because one number does not negate a greater number.
➋
The last name is "Aaqib."
Its explanation is that after you, no new prophet will come; as if you have come after all the noble prophets alayhimussalam. Therefore, whoever claims prophethood after you is a liar and a deceiver (dajjal).
➌
Numerous noble names of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam are mentioned in the Qur'an, but searching for ninety-nine names of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in comparison to the ninety-nine names of Allah is questionable.
The innovators (bid‘atis) have attributed to him some names in which there is extreme exaggeration, such as: "the lamp of the Divine Throne!" The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has prohibited such styles and expressions.

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: Muhammad: The possessor of complete praiseworthy qualities, one who is praised repeatedly. Ahmad: The one who praises the most. In both these aspects, there is no equal to you. The one whom Allah Himself praises—what doubt can there be in his being Muhammad? And the one whom Allah Himself teaches praise—what doubt can there be in his being Ahmad? Al-Mahi: The effacer, by whom the arguments and proofs of disbelief were eradicated; by means of evidence and proofs, it was wiped out. Al-Hashir: The gatherer, behind whom people will be assembled in the plain of resurrection; as if your prophethood and law are the last, and between the Day of Judgment and you, there will be no other prophethood or law. Al-Aqib: The last to come, because you came after all the prophets. In the earlier scriptures, your name was Ahmad, and in the Qur’an, it is Muhammad.

Benefit:
In this hadith, several names of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) are mentioned. Some people have compiled ninety-nine names for the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), although among them are many names for which there is no evidence, nor is there any established virtue in memorizing these names. Furthermore, it is also established that the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is the last Prophet.
